Edwardian Dress Suit Blue Wool Soutache Embroidery An amazing piece of day wear from the turn of the 20th century this ensemble consists of a jacket that goes over an undergarment dress where the top is in plain black cotton, and meant only as an interior base for the jacket, while the skirt section matches the jacket in solid, dark blue, wool. Jacket is collarless, has long sleeves, and closes with interior hooks down the front (the buttons here are decorative, as are the ones on the sleeves). The front is decorated in an elaborate soutache embroidery, which is also echoed at the sleeves and shoulder blades. Back features a decorative sash and button center at bottom. Jacket is lined. The dress has hook closure at lower back, center. No tags/handmade. Jacket-- Shoulders 17" Sleeves 23" Chest 44" Waist 32" Length 20" Condition: there are numerous little repairs throughout where moth holes were professionally stitched over in clever darn work, while the right underarm shows white thread where an amateur repaired. The left underarm shows an ex section of fabric that has been put in to, presumably, widen the jacket, but this looks a high quality job. Some sections of the soutache thread show wear in direct light. There is also wear around the edges of the sleeve cuffs. There is one small hole at bottom front hem, left side. Hem of the lining, center, needs to be reattached. Dress-- Shoulders 13" Chest 36" waist 29" hips - free length 54" condition: clearly an amateur at some point attached a black sleeveless top to the skirt and did a clumsy job of it as seen in the pic. There is a small tear at right underarm and the basting on the interior of the hook closure is very worn. The skirt itself has numerous very small moth holes towards the bottom, but you have to lay the fabric flat and hunt for them in direct light to see them. The fabric is so thick and voluminous that they truly get lost. Note that though there are many little flaws, the overall presentation of this piece is more than wearable! Most of the issues need to be pointed out to be noticed. Priced accordingly.
