MEN'S DESIGNER TAILORED BEIGE & BLACK ITALIAN DUPIONI SILK LEISURE

Offered for auction, "MEN'S DESIGNER HAND TAILORED BEIGE & BLACK ITALIAN DUPIONI SILK MATCHING SHIRT & SLACKS CASUAL/DRESS WALKING LEISURE SUIT".  In the 1950's-60's men's custom tailored matching shirt and slacks sets consisted of various eye-catching fabrics such as (silk, silk/wool blends, sharkskin, rayon/acetate blends, linen etc., with silk being the most expensive).  The matching sets were called "Slacks Suits", or generically "Tailor's" (colloquial terms coined in New Orleans).  This style outfit was frequently sported by stylish guys and hipsters at school, to concerts and other fashionable events, and often by entertainment groups like the "Temptations".  On occasion at a concert you might observe both guys and their girlfriends sporting matching Slacks Suits of the same tailored fabric.  The females, however, would not sport the traditional "Girly-Girl" pedal-pushers/capris with matching tops, but a more masculine tailored cut, with the exception of zipper and hook closure on the opposite side.  This fashion statement co-op was undoubtedly a testament to the concept, "STAND BY YOUR MAN". LOL. This slacks suit, recently tailored, is fashioned with vintage Italian 100% Dupioni Silk fabric made in Italy by GIORDANO BASSO, purchased in the 1970's-80's from B. Black & Son's Tailoring Supplies, Los Angeles, CA.  This luxurious silk has beige and black tone with a sheen characteristic of vintage Dupioni Silk and natural imperfections (slubs) that display its uniqueness, (quite expensive when purchased).  The round manufacturer's fabric stamp reads: GIORDANO BASSO, TESSITURA, SETA PURA (see photo #10). This slacks style is unique to the designer as it is accented with the original genuine vintage Alligator extension half-belted waist (a creation of the designer in the 1970's).  The black tapered 5/8" to 7/8" (Paris) belt does not include the antique gold & silver belt buckle pictured, however, a bronze/brass buckle in good used condition with normal wear will be substituted.  The belt is secured with stylishly fashioned button tabs.  It has a double pleated front with the main pleat 1" deep, (2) slant front pockets, front watch pocket, (2) waist back pockets with button down tabs and vintage Talon zipper closure.  The measurements: Waist...30", Inseam...31", Waist to hem...41 1/2", Hip w/pleats closed...36", Bottom hem flat...8 1/4".  The inside waist lining has the designer label: "Original Design And Tailored By "MINGORAJOHNS", as does the shirt. The matching short sleeve shirt features a (5) button front closure with extended button tabs.  It has pleated front yolk and inset breast pockets with button tabs and a 2 3/4" spread open collar with button and tab.  The double pleated back is joined to yoke and seams are top-stitched.  This shirt is designed to wear either inside or outside trousers.  The measurements: Armpit to armpit...21 1/2", Shoulder to shoulder...19 1/2", Collar top to hem...28 1/2", Bottom width laid flat...21", Sleeve length...9 3/8".  The collar to bottom hem length has been subsequently altered (decreased) by 1" to allow a more contemporary appearance (see photo 4). This matching slack suit is clean, in excellent condition and never worn.  "Dry cleaning only" care instruction is advised to maintain fit and durability (label attached).  The slacks are full cut and moderately tapered at bottom hem like in the 1950's-60's.  It has a 2" selvage hem which can be converted to cuff if desired.  Attention should be given to listed measurements to ensure proper fit, as there is no size tag and no return or refund after receiving.  The vintage alligator belt is in good pre-owned condition, with light wear and is included in this listing.
