The title of this two-CD best-of is something of a misnomer, as it gathers tracks from one of the storied jazz saxophonist Charlie Parker's most fertile periods, recording for the small Dial record label in the mid-to-late 1940s. Cuts such as "A Night in Tunisia," with its soaring alto break, "Relaxin' at Camarillo," and the lyrical "How Deep Is the Ocean?" have long since taken their place among the classics of bebop, and the contributions of jazz legends such as the trumpeters Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis, as well as the pianist Bud Powell, are equally noteworthy.
