Vintage Beautiful Condition IVORY VELVET SUITED *Harold Gale S tyle SANTA CLAUS Made by Display Arts NYC - Very rare to find one of these brand Santas at all, and especially rare outfitted in a color other than red! RARE HAND PAINTED BLUE EYES - GORGEOUS FACE PAINT AND COLORING! Standing, approximately 15" to top of his head, 18" to top of his hat Dreamy blue eyes, gorgeous face paint .....just the best ever face (he was a sample specimen I acquired and very few were produced)!  A beautiful vintage blue-eyed Santa Claus in an Ivory Velvet suit!  These style Santas' with the painted celluloid faces are most often referred to as Harold Gale Santa Claus' from the mid to later Mid-Century era, which were prolific in the retail market.  This guy is a rare Display Arts NYC Santa and he is marked on the bottom of his boot.  Although I have never found the better-known Harold Gales' to be marked with their name, the Display Arts Santa is similar in style and period, but he is marked.  They are quite rare and I have never come across another one, and I collected pretty extensively.  This style of Santa was very popular from the late 1950's to early 1980's with the 1960's being the era that was most prolific for availability to consumers in retail stores.  They have fairly distinct faces with smiles and chubby cheeks and painted eyelashes.....most often the vintage "Coca-Cola" style Santas' that you think of. *I acquired this Santa in the late 1970's from a KC Christmas wholesale showroom as a gift from the rep that I did business with after commenting how lovely he was as we were going through stock display items.  I assumed he was a newer Gale Santa, but was told he was actually an old "dead" stock sample piece they had from a different manufacturer (Display Arts NYC) that was sent to them in the hopes of getting their business.  The distributor ended up not picking up the line as they already had the Gale similar line, so he was given to me.  I've still never seen another one and truly believe him to be quite the rare fellow for your collection. Description:  Gorgeous hand painted face and blue eyes.... real wool beard!  Santa's ivory velvet suit is accessorized with a white vinyl belt and white boots.  These Santas' were often referred to as "go-go" boot Santas'.  He stands independently, but not as solidly as I like and I always put him on a stand when displayed because he was usually next to antique Christmas glass that I don't want to risk breakage to in the case he were to happen to fall over.  The clothing is glued on..... there is no dressing or undressing him.  These types of Santa Claus' were meant to be display figures, not dolls or toys.  His suit isn't stark snow white, it remains in original off-white light cream, or ivory, color.  His beard is supposed to be an ivory wool color and it remains full in its natural material wool color.  The boots on him look to be the same mold as the boots on my Harold Gale Santas except they are a thicker material and the sole is solid.  They are prominently marked Display Arts NYC on the soles.  They do not have the hard plastic celluloid shine like the ones on my 1960 and later years' HG's do. Condition: Very good.  I took all photos in regular room lighting without aid of flash.  There are no tears, holes, repairs, cracks, etc.  His suit is without stains, and he's never been exposed to smoke.  The integrity of the fabric remains good.  I do find one scant pinkish smudge on the back of his boots that I've not tried to clean off as it is on the back and not noticeable under most lighting unless purposely looking for it.  It wasn't showing, so I put him in front of a black drape for contrast and took a close-up photo to highlight it so you can see.  His suit is still ivory on first impression, but he is approximately 50 or so years old and has been on display so some age-related patina of the fabric is to be expected.  I included a photo, again in front of a black drape for contrast and pulled up his belt so you can see what difference has occurred over the years.  Pretty negligible.  I've never attempted to clean or alter him in any way..... just an occasional light dusting with a feather duster when he was on display in my home for the season. Shipping: I will package him carefully.  Sent USPS with tracking and insurance. Note:  I normally ship same or next business day provided I am home.  Due to weather and short travel trips (and age/mobility) I have put a 3-day handling time to cover me on my listings so ebay doesn't ding my seller rating if a shipping label doesn't get printed within 1 business day.  If you need something sent out immediately, please message me so I can let you know when I will ship. Thanks for Looking!
