H Bar C RANCHWEAR suit, c1950-2, Burnt Sienna Brown Wool, Orange & Blue fleck Wool, Double Yoke, Near Mint. Pure vintage men's size 38, tailored to size with room to enlarge. Everything I have ever owned has a story. Like this suit the other images you see (even blurry ones) everything I ever bought or wore was NOS, (new old stock) including the Victorian suit. I have been interested in this, clothing, starting in elementary school when I wore an Army & Navy store kids replica, paratrooper uniform, including jump boots, with gold embossed parachutes on each boot. It was a copy of my Dads 82 Airborne WWII era uniform.
In 1959 and then again in 1963 I won best dressed in Jr. high and then in high school. Best dancer and designing the yearbook covers too, but this is about clothing! (some people peak early). Basically I am an artist and still peaking...
At one point in the mid-sixties I had my suits custom made by Andrew Pallack. In his Manhattan loft there was a photo of him in the middle of the picture and on either side was Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. This is what he did next.... BATMAN.1966–1968) wardrobe: men / men's wardrobe: furnished by

also the Green Hornet. But soon after that, in 1965 and hitchhiking around Europe, I came home wearing US Navy surplus, dead stock bell bottoms and a chambray shirt. Bought in London at the Portobello flea market, where years later I set up to sell. I never looked back.
By '71 I was living in Amsterdam and was selling vintage ( then just used smelly jeans (paying 5c to 8c a lb.) and other American goods. That's the background..
In 1991 on a Friday I sat with my son in a N.J. theater, watching the movie City Slickers. Two days later on Sunday, I was sitting with my 14 year old son in a Conestoga Wagon, 10,000' up in the Grand Tetons in Jackson Hole, WY. As soon as that part of the trip was over I drove across the state back and forth into Nebraska, then back to Idaho and Montana looking for stuff.
When I stopped in Cody I went to see and visit with Brian Lebel. Now known for his famous Old West Show and Auction. I had met him through a friend of mine, who at the time was working for Ralph Lauren, one of his top designers. I clearly remember walking around with Brian at a Brimfield Show in Mass. just chatting. In Cody his simply said with a friendly smile, "you won't find any Western stuff around here because everyone knows me and my auction. Maybe Hawaiian shirts but that's about it." The next morning I left the Irma Hotel and set off on the hunt. My son was only a bit cranky about my stopping, BUT! ...
An hour from Cody, heading east towards Devils Tower, we stopped at a thrift store. Two heavy set, overstuffed, slightly bearded sisters in their late 20's, almost in unison, said, "we have mostly women's clothing, but there's a small rack with men's stuff." Well, I was buying women's vintage too and looked around. The women's things were awful. But then I found the men's rack. It was full and the clothes could have stayed up without hangers, it too was that overstuffed. I piled things into my son's arms and made two trips back to the rack. I piled it on the checkout counter, it was about 4' high. After a few hems and haws between the sisters they asked for $35. I gave them two 20's and tripped my way out the door. Three suits, a jacket and four shirts, fit me. This auction is for one of those suits. One of the other suits was a later '60's Sharkskin, iridescent, brown to gold, which I wore a few times. But having grown up wearing more similar NY style suits of that fabric, I sold it not long after wearing it.
This suit has been worn probably 15 times over its lifetime with me and never for long periods each time. It is pristine. The only flaw is a slight spreading of the lapel button hole, were I wore my original, Teddy Roosevelt, Rough Rider, lead stud & others. Photos of them are shown, with others c1904. As far as any blurry photos, one of my old shirts, now all gone and one or two more may be blurry. Sorry 'bout that but the necessary ones that show the suit are clear. However, I also did include the once dead stock, Acme, underslung, shorty boots, that I wore with this suit. Yes, there were more. Those sold fast and last Fall, in a friend's shop where I sell some merch. I rarely put any of my fine suits there, not wanting anyone who doesn't know how try on, or wear a suit, to try them on! I think for its rarity of style, its pristine condition and its fabulous fleck fabric, it is priced fairly to start. The color of the suit vary in the photos. The few close ups are the most accurate. It is that reddish brown, artist color burnt sienna that is the closest. Great to wear, used as a prop, or for a vintage film shoot, or just to be the sharpest dressed Cat in town. Or even DOWN UNDER where I sold a Nudie and Turk shirt years ago. Shipping free over $425., but considering the cost of shipping the suit will be shipped large Priority at $22. Therefore the suit will most likely need a pressing upon arrival. It will still be packed with care and not crammed into its box. Also the outside of the carton will be lightly sprayed with lavender to ward off insects. Checkout my other suit auction for a similar great suit and more photos.
