This piece has traveled all the way from Edinburgh Scotland. Brought back by my friend who was closing her mother's estate. She told me this outfit came from Ireland. A purchase her mother made while on a family vacation when she was a child. This is hand made and sewn, not a store bought piece. Clearly the weaver was very talented and had an appreciation for the art form.
If you know textiles, you're going to be very pleased! This exterior is made with HAND LOOMED mohair and wool blend tweed. It's done with several diameters of yarn which gives it a textural quaility. Bright blue and teal. The colors are really saturated and deeply hued. The outfit is fully lined in thick matching satin.
The top goes on over the head (no zipper). Hook and eye closure at front. Mandarin style collar. Two faux pocket flap placed asymmetrically. The skirt has a nylon zipper in back, elastic waistband, and hook and eye closure. Condition:
I consider this in excellent condition. There is no moth damage!
On inspection I found:
Slight discoloration on interior lining. Not visible when worn.
A small amount of "furry" piling. Not bad but mentioned for accuracy.
The outfit was carefully stored for over 30 years. There are no smells or dirt, but dry cleaning is recommended to freshen and give the ensemble a "spa day". This is not necessary, and you could wear it as is, but it's just so beautiful it deserves a fresh start. Please review photos with red pointer for reference. Size:
